Today I wanted to share about this amazing way to play online english jubensha (murder mysteries).
WHAT IS UZU
UZU is an online application that contains a lot of titles, has features to schedule and sign up for games, and automates the rules and admin during the game.
WHAT KIND OF TITLES ARE IN UZU?
UZU's parent corporation is big and wide. But today I am just focusing on the UZU app.
Within the app there are many titles available with many different titles (including solo!) and many genres.

The titles within UZU are a mix of:
Titles that exsists outside of UZU and are ported into UZU,
UZU's own creation.
Creator submitted titles.
HOW TO JOIN A GAME IN UZU?
There has never been a smoother way of joining a game.
You scroll through the titles that UZU offers, see one that you are interested, set up an event with your preferred timing, and once enough players have been gathered, it will notify you, and you simply show up on the scheduled time!
In the same way, you can also browse events that others have set up, and sign up to join those sessions.
Same thing, once those sessions have gathered enough players, you will be notified, and just show up and play!
WHAT ARE THE GAME PRICES IN UZU?
There are free games. So do not worry! There are a LOT of free games.
But there are also games that requires and entry fee.
For paid games, you'll have to pay your entry fee (in UZU coins) when you sign up for a session. Though if the session falls through, you'll receive the amount back (in UZU coins).
The fun thing here is that if you are the one who created the event, you can choose to treat the players and pay everyone's entry fee.
This is also a good time to say that you can set sign ups to public or friends only (and share an invite link to your event).
HOW IS A GAME PLAYED IN UZU?
This is the best part.
In UZU, the game handles the admin, rules overhead, all the set up. EVERYTHING.
You just join as a player and enjoy the game.

In the UZU screen, you will see 3 seperate area (that you can adjust the size)
First is the text/rules, this is where you can refer to your player scripts, and other common infomation like maps, events.
The middle is the "current focus" for example when you have an event, or when you are investigating, the selections will show up here.
And on the right is your hand, which will show the cards you have investigated, and you can click on other tabs to view other players hands.
This is very convenient and I love it!
In a GM-less title (games where it doesn't require a Game Master)
UZU will handle all the rules by sharing them when appropriate,
it will also handle the "set up" by distributing all your private infomation, the amount of tokens, who can investigate what locations and how many times. It will also keep track of the time.
When appropriate, it will also proceed to the subsequent game phase.
What I think is the most useful, is that all of the flow chart and branching paths are built in within UZU so it will happen automatically and bring you to the corrent event or ending.
I really like this because in a real game, having a player that doubles as a facilitator to go through the rulebook to check the flow chart conditions often breaks immersion but more importantly it disrupts the players rhythm.
OVERALL
Overall, Uzu makes playing English jubensha (murder mystery) games incredibly accessible, even for first-timers. Personally, I’ve had a blast using Uzu.
I’ll probably write more about some first impressions of the titles I’ve tried soon.
In the meantime, check it out and let me know what you think — happy sleuthing!
